Outings

Most outings the troop makes will be short drives. We typically meet at the little white house across from Carrboro Methodist at 5:45PM for a 6:00PM departure. Since the boys must check out equipment from the shed and meet with their patrol leader about last minute changes/assignments, it is important that they arrive at 5:45PM. If they will be late, please have them let their patrol leader know. The goal of the outing is to arrive before dark to allow everyone time to set up their gear. This is not always possible, especially in the winter months. Each outing has a theme. It may be fishing, hiking, camping, wilderness survival, etc. These themes are discussed and skills taught/reinforced at the troop meetings prior to the outing. Most outings we return around noon on Sunday. Because of church traffic, we meet in the Carrboro Elemenatary School bus circle. The boys will not be able to leave immediately upon returning because the equipment must be replaced in the shed or divided up between the boys to be cleaned. Boys are encouraged to bring their gear in an external frame backpack if they own one. If they don't, loaners are available or, if necessary, suitcases will work. We want the boy to come on the outing. We have a Troop pack list of items that the boy should take with him. Of course, it should be modified to reflect the weather.
