THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS WILL ALLOW YOU TO SAFELY COLLECT YOUR DATA:1. When you first enter the outer lab, check and see if someone else is collecting a data set - if the following screen is on the computer, they are collecting data and the shutter is open: PICTURE OF COMPUTER SCREEN WHEN DATA ARE BEING COLLECTED 2. If you need to stop the previous person's data collection, please hit the Abort button to close the shutter and stop their job PICTURE OF THE ABORT BUTTON ON COMPUTER SCREEN 3. When you are ready to go into the lab, make sure that the safety interlock keypad is NOT in BYPASS mode. If it is in BYPASS mode, you will be able to enter the lab with the shutter open. The keypad is to the left of the door into the lab closest to the computer. In bypass mode, a red light will be lit on the upper left of the keypas, as well as a green light on the upper right. You may enter the lab, mount your crystal, and then leave the lab when you are ready to collect data, YOU MUST ENTER THE CODE 0000# (four zeros and a pound sign) TO REMOVE THE INTERLOCK OFF SO THAT THE SHUTTER WILL OPEN. If you do not enter the code, your data collection will proceed but the shutter will not open and your crystal will not be irradiated. FINALLY, WHEN MOUNTING OR UNMOUNTING A CRYSTAL, TRY TO USE AS MUCH CAUTION AS IF THE SHUTTER WAS OPEN - i.e. USE VIAL TONGS AND CLAMPS WHEREVER POSSIBLE SO THAT YOUR FINGERS DO NOT ENTER THE PATH OF THE PRIMARY BEAM.
